Why Does the Opening & Closing Stock Figure Not Appear in the Trial Balance ?

Modified on Tue, 15 Oct, 2024 at 2:33 PM

In our system, the stock value in the Trial Balance is designed to always show the closing stock figure from the previous financial year. This means that:

  • Opening Stock: The system assumes that the closing stock from last financial year-end automatically carries over as the opening stock for the new financial year (2024). This figure is already incorporated into the accounts, so there is no need to show it separately in the Trial Balance for 30/9/2024.
  • Closing Stock for the Current Year: Our system doesn’t require manual adjustments for the closing stock in the Trial Balance report. Instead, it always reflects the stock value based on the last financial year-end.

This design is intentional to keep the stock value consistent and avoid discrepancies. However, if you're expecting to see specific opening or closing stock figures for the current year in your report, those would typically be tracked separately in a stock or inventory report, rather than the Trial Balance, which focuses on overall balances up to the end of the period.
